Mid-way between Auronzo and Misurina, at Palus San Marco, the Somadida forest is the largest forest in the Cadore area and in winter it is turned into a famous cross-country skiing centre with nine circuits.

And for the little ones…

There’s a teaching area at the foot of the slopes with a baby ski lift where ski instructors introduce your children to the wonderful world of skiing with proven fun, play-teaching methods.

THINGS TO DO

Our splendid resort also offers its visitors a sport which is much more than a way of keeping fit. A trip on snowshoes, called ‘ciaspole’ in local dialect, is a profound experience in which you feel truly at one with nature. In winter Consorzio Auronzo Misurina organises snowshoe excursions on the most beautiful and evocative footpaths in the Dolomites with expert professionals who know every inch of the Val d’Ansiei. And if you want to be even more adventurous you can rent snowshoes and walk to one of the many mountain huts which are open all winter and try out some of the specialities of traditional local cuisine.

If you are looking for something different from skiing along our many kilometres of slope, Auronzo offers many other exciting winter activities: snowmobile rental, for example, gives you the thrill of discovering the less well-known aspects of the Dolomites with spectacular, panoramic views. The most spectacular snowmobile routes in the Dolomites are undoubtedly those at the foot of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Mt. Piana is a mountain with a long history but it is most famously associated with the Great War and the deep wounds it left. The Monte Piana Open Air Museum’s mission is to keep the memory of this period alive. A shuttle bus from Misurina to Rifugio Bosi takes you to the museum area or a straightforward hour and a half’s walk takes you up on foot. Trenches, passageways and fortified lines with barbed wire all bring the past to life.
